Today one of our favorite Italian specialty superstores, Eataly, celebrates its 2nd birthday. We attend many events at Eataly and always enjoy showing our support. So from the Men Who Dine to Eataly, we wish you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Eataly Presents: Sicilia (Lunch & Class) in Instagram – June 4, 2012
Eataly puts together some of the best Italian programs in NYC. We always look forward to events there. Besides having the opportunity to enjoy first class food, we also get to learn about the history, culture and food ways of one of the world’s greatest countries. Being of Italian ancestry, I am partial to all things Italian. This particular lunch showcased the foods, wines and products of Sicily. Sicily is the largest of the Mediterranean islands. It has been an integral part to the history of Italy from time immemorial. We were fortunate enough to dine on Toasted Bread Two Ways: one with Anchovies and Peperonata and the other with Caponata (Duo di Pane Cunzato: Acciughe con Peperonata e Caponata di Melanzane); Fresh Tuna with Capers, Tomatoes and Oregano (Tonno Fresco al Forno con Capperi, Pomodorini e Origano); and Cannoli Siciliani. The flavors of this luncheon brought right back to my time spent in Sicily and made me yearn for my return.

We go to a lot of food events, but I must say that some of the best are held at Eataly in NYC. Eataly is truly a mecca for lovers of food, Italian or otherwise. I’ve been a personal fan of Eataly since its opening almost 2 years ago. In fact, I was one of the first to visit the store on its opening day. So I am always honored and delighted whenever I am invited to an event here. And even when there isn’t an event, I often find myself perusing the store or enjoying a beer at the rooftop Birreria that is brew about 30 feet from the bar.
